The really interesting thing about this thread is that the offshore
outsourcers are moving down the food chain -- and perhaps that
responding to the apparent opportunity is moving down the food chain in
the provider country.

Used to be they were major companies mostly in India like Infosys and
Tata, approaching major companies here (mostly vendors, or companies
with large IT development or support staff). Now they are shifting to
possible customers at the SMB level, and thus competing at our local
level.

This isn't entirely new, as we've seen some indicators for a number of
months. But quite recently (since the new year) there has been a sudden
growth in apparent "suppliers to small businesses" of this sort,
contacting small businesses (like us). Of course we don't know if these
are independent small suppliers with Skype accounts, or new marketing
directions for the big providers like Infosys, although my guess is the
former.

Thus local providers will face the same competition in the same way as
has already happened on a more global level. Although the "local" sell
may be a bit harder. But it seems it is starting to be incumbent upon
local vendors and providers to be more aggressive about what they offer
and the broadness of their offerings, since the example given certainly
suggested that they could offer stuff that local providers couldn't or
wouldn't. All untrue, and thus a fairly stupid assertion.

BTW he was much more likely to be in Bangalore or Hyderabad (or the new
names for them).
