[RTC List] Broadband Meeting

Sorry for the short notice but I am hosting a meeting about the ARRA broadband Notice of Funding Availability that was released last week on:

Humboldt Area Foundation Community Center

I have Joanne Hovis from Columbia Telecommunications (CTC) and chair of the National Assoc of Telecommunications Officers and Advisors (NATOA) to give us their read on the rules for broadband funding released on July 1, 2009, and have a discussion about the regional projects, application and deployment strategies.  This is a time to think about the how the principles proposed by RTC can move to action.  It is a great time for us to get our best thinking on the table about bringing the maximum money to the region, and possibly get answers to some of the questions posed by the rules.

Time is short,  applications are due into the feds on August 14th.

Today is the committee hearing about changing the CASF rules to allow non-regulated Wireless service providers and any other qualified applicants for ARRA money to also be able to access state funding through the CASF program.  Shirley Freriks from the Mendocino Coast Broadband Alliance and Patty Berg were going to Sacramento to testify.  Stay tuned on that one.
