Hi all,

There was a big announcment for our region this week about the 2nd round of
CASF funding applications for areas unserved/underserved by broadband. Below
are the relevant resolutions at the CPUC. They vote on 2/20/09.

General notice:

In Mendocino County, WillitsOnline applied for Laytonville and AT&T applied
for Comptche.

WillitsOnline:

The really big news and the largest CASF award to date is to Broadband
Associates, who will build a fiber optic backbone from Eureka to the
Interstate 5 corridor. Their "last mile" service will be wireless in
unserved/underserved from the Blue Lake area over to Whiskeytown. CENIC, who
provides Internet connectivity to HSU, CR, and K-12 schools, connected the
Redwood Coast Connect project to Broadband Associates.

These projects (and others that unfortunately didn't make it through the
CASF process) are the direct result of community activism and provider
contact/encouragement from the Redwood Coast Connect project. Tina
