[RTC List] Question for the list

Julie,
You can usually dump your list of e-mail addresses from Outlook into an
Excel spreadsheet. Depending upon the version of Outlook you are running,
the menu placement could be in several places. Just look for something
called "Export". When it asks what you want to export the contact file to,
choose a space or comma delimited (Excel) spreadsheet. You should be able
to open the file in any text editor, such as notepad. If not, open it in
Excel, highlight the row with the addresses in it, copy, then paste it to
a text editor. You should end up with a simple text file that contains one
e-mail address per line, which is a format that can be imported into most
listserv programs.
Usually, your best bet is to contact your hosting company, rather than
your ISP, unless they just happen to be one in the same. If they don't
support listserv functionality, find a new hosting provider! Listserv's
are programs that are pretty much standard in most cheap hosting packages
these days, so you shouldn't have to pay anything extra, unless it
includes set-up. Either way, you need a server-based mailing list program
that will send messages from your website's domain name. If you just try
sending that many messages via an ISP account, you will eventually be
tagged as a spammer by most commercial e-mail services (Yahoo! Gmail, AOL,
etc.), so few, if any, of your messages will end-up making it to the
intended recipients. There are more free listserv programs than I could
possibly name here. Some of the more common ones are MailMan, Majordomo,
Listserv, etc. Your hosting company should be able to point you in the
right direction. Good luck!
