    Humboldt County Independent Business Alliance to publish free
    directory of independent businesses and local non-profits

    The Humboldt County Independent Business Alliance (HumIBA) is a
coalition of independent business owners, citizens, and community
organizations united to support hometown businesses in Humboldt County.
Our vision is of an economically vibrant and culturally unique
community. Our goals include exploring cooperative ways to help indy
business owners thrive as well as educating the citizenry about the
importance of our community-based businesses and the challenges they
face. By building connections between indy business owners, we hope to
create a collective voice that can ensure their viability and our
community's vibrancy. By educating the citizenry, we hope to make it
clear that we're not just consumers and business owners, but
participants in a community-building process where our everyday choices
shape the future of our community.
    The first step in this process of connection is making everyone
better aware of each other. To that end we are publishing an independent
business directory called Local Options. To ensure this directory is
more than just a list of paid advertisers, HumIBA is offering *free
listings* in Local Options to any business or non-profit that
qualifies.  Just go to www.humiba.org and press the "Add your business"
button to sign up!
    Of course, to help support the organization and its efforts to keep
Humboldt unique and its economy strong, we encourage owners and
residents to consider signing on as members.  Regardless of membership,
however, the listing is *free.*
