Hi RTC list:

Sometimes I get tired of learning technical skills by myself through
books and online resources, and so I've wanted to be able to learn
with other people through organized classes on the North Coast. One
of the resources I've previously overlooked (and I think others may
also overlook) are HSU's CS/CIS departments. In Spring 2008, for
example, they had a course on Python development that I overlooked.
It is possible to participate in many classes through the HSU Extended
Education office.

Curious what's on deck for Fall 2008, I checked out the HSU CIS course
schedule (http://www.humboldt.edu/~oaa/class_schd/fall08/CIS.html)

Here are some highlights. I've heard Guy-Alain Amoussou does some
good stuff.

CIS 235 41876 1 Java Programming 3 15/ 11/
4 Y A1
                              Tuttle, Sharon T 1000-1150
BSS 308
CIS 450 40647 1 Information Resource Managemnt 3 15/ 9/
6 Y
                              Amoussou, Guy-Alain M 0800-1050
BSS 308
CIS 464 44900 2 Electronic Commerce:e-comm. DL 3 35/ 7/
28 Y
                              Campbell, Harold G.

I've encouraged the HSU CS/CIS folks to participate in this list and
notify RTC of learning opportunities. I believe more CS/CIS
curriculum oriented around the 21st century internet age at HSU will
help local economic development efforts, and I think RTC-HSU cross-
pollination and communication is a good way to go in this direction.

Cheers!
Aaron

p.s. On this same topic of tech skills development, I recently
attended Google I/O and Where Camp at the Google campus. I would
recommend these events for many on this list in 2009.
