[RTC List] On-Line back-up/storage services

This is a great discussion ... thanks for the question, Sherman, and
thanks to the SBDC technology boot camp for covering this important topic.

I use _http://www.ibackup.com/_ (http://www.ibackup.com/) , which charges
$9.95 a month for 10 gigabytes of storage. I used Amerivault for awhile but
their software was clunky and prices too high.

Check to make sure whatever service you use syncronizes the files you
already have stored. This means the first time you back-up will take a long time,
but daily back-ups thereafter only add and subtract files that have changed
and this takes much less time.

As an added bonus, you will have access to your files from remote locations.
Since I travel a lot, this has been a blessing when I find myself away from
home and needing a file.

Be sure you select a daily back-up, since every service I know of only
charges for the space, not the number of times you back-up. God forbid, if your
hard drive fries you'll have the latest files and not just from a few days ago.

Finally, consider getting either a network hard drive or a peripheral hard
drive to back-up your whole system in addition to the online back-up. The
benefit of remote back-up is that if there is an earthquake, flood or fire, your
data is still protected ... but you'll pay a lot more if you're backing up
your whole system. All you really need off site are your files.

This is a good reminder to us all ... BACK-UP YOUR FILES !!!!!!!

We use LogMeIn Backup with excellent success.

Why LogMeIn Backup?
LogMeIn Backup gives you control over your data on devices you manage,
placing security and ease of accessibility in your hands. With LogMeIn Backup, you
can be confident important data is secure and available when you need it.

I don't use the two online backup services that you mentioned but I do
use Amazon's S3 service (http://amazon.com/s3) I have about 30GB of
photos on it right now and I use Jungle Disk
(http://www.jungledisk.com/) as my back client. I'm very happy and the
cost is very low under $5 a month.

I would recommend the S3 service to anyone. The only downfall is they
don't offer any software you have to go to a 3rd party for that.
