RTC General Membership Meeting
June 12, 2008, 5:30 pm
Humboldt Area Foundation, Conference Room, Bayside

Bob Morse, President, convened the meeting and invited those in attendance to briefly introduce themselves.

PROGRAMS/VENUES/2008 MEMBERSHIP MEETINGS
There will not be any RTC general meetings in July or August.  The next meeting will be Thursday, September 11, with the guest speaker to be announced soon. 

Members are invited to submit suggestions for program topics to the board by emailing board at redwoodtech.org.

ANNOUNCEMENTS
 **RTC has a new board member, Steve Stratton.
 **RTC Board announces a new award – The Technology Leadership Award to be given to one or two local technology leader in areas such as, but not limited to: 
--advocacy and outreach related to technology;
--innovative use of technology;
--technology training; and/or
--marketing of technology.   
                      Anyone may nominate a person or an organization, including 
              themselves, for recognition.  The RTC Board will narrow the 
              nominations to a few, and a vote by members via the RTC 
              website will determine the winners.  Only RTC members are 
              eligible to win the awards. 
**SBDC will host a Business Technology Boot Camp on June 19 from 8:15 am – 4:30 pm. It will be held at the Humboldt Aquatic Center.  Cost is $35 in advance and $50 at the door. For more information go to www.sbdctap.com/bootcamp.
The Broadband Forum will be held Thursday, August 21 at the Riverlodge in Fortuna.  The event is free but attendees must RSVP.

Board officers for 2008 are as follows, at this time:

John McBrearty, Secretary
Michael Kraft, Treasurer
Steve Stratton, Member-at-large

The board is currently seeking/interviewing prospective persons as a board member.

MEMBERSHIP 2008
Anyone interested in joining the RTC membership, as an individual or business, should go to the website at www.redwoodtech.org to submit an application.  Existing members are reminded to update the membership profile as necessary.

Tina Nerat – Preliminary Report from Redwood Coast Connect.
Tina Nerat gave an overview of the specific goals of RCC.  
Identifying supply and demand in 4 county area – Humboldt, Del Norte, Trinity and Mendicino.  

RCC looked at supply criteria such as: --What is installed.
--Number of providers in served areas.
--Unserved areas
--Underserved areas.

Humboldt Broadband Demand – Demand Criteria – importance of broadband to residents and businesses.
--Local leadership
--Local interest

Develop Infrastructure Scenarios.

What’s next? Community Feedback and suggestions.  Public comment on rankings and ratings.

GUEST SPEAKER – SETH JOHANNESEN from 101Netlink.
Seth Johannesen began his presentation with a short history of his business – 101Netlink.       He then talked about the services that 101Netlink offers and that its strength is providing redundancy to businesses that it is critical to.  The presentation also included a show and tell on some wireless equipment.

Next General Membership Meeting:
Thursday, September 11, 2008 at the Humboldt Area Foundation’s Conference Room.  Guest speaker to be announced.
