Hi all, this was OK'd to distribute widely. My apologies in advance for the
attachment, but it's fairly small (289kb). At the end of the report, there's
a link to a Google map http://tinyurl.com/5cznku. Note that the map doesn't
include all the WISPs on the Redwood Coast (missing 101Netlink Esplanade on
Mendocino Coast). It also doesn't show coverage areas, just where their
offices are. Redwood Coast Connect will have coverage maps out in a few
weeks. Tina

Subject: Wireless Internet Service Providers (WISPs) in California

Good Afternoon Everyone,

During the Spring term, the California Broadband Initiative at the
California Business, Transportation & Housing Agency was lucky to host an
intern from Sacramento State University. Adam Morrison, a graduating
senior, spent much of his time researching Wireless Internet Service
Providers (WISPs) in California. He created and administered a survey and
investigated the typical network architectures used by WISPs in California.

The enclosed paper, a working draft of the Broadband Initiative, is the
culmination of his findings. It describes the results of the survey and
provides technical information about WISPs. Adam also created a Google map
of all publicly available locations for California WISPs. Please see page
12 of the paper for more information.

We are excited about this paper and hope that it will add to the already
robust discussion around broadband deployment and adoption in California.

Please note the disclaimer located at the top of the paper, which is quoted
below for your reference:

This document is a working draft and intended for informational use only.
The content of this draft include descriptions of existing technology and
results of a survey of wireless network operators. Consequently, this
report does not reflect the views of the individual authors, or the views
and policies of the Business, Transportation and Housing Agency, or the
State of California. This compilation of information does not include any
express or implied policy recommendation by the Business, Transportation and
Housing Agency or the State of California and does not reflect any support
or opposition to the views expressed by participants of the survey.

Warm Regards,

Anne Neville
